The customer is a leading global manufacturer that supplies innovative thermal hardware solutions to diverse industries like renewable energy, steel production, and chemicals. As their operations grew, the manufacturer faced connectivity issues between their operations in China, India, and the US that greatly hampered operational efficiency.
To resolve these issues and futureproof their infrastructure, the customer searched for a partner capable of helping them rapidly establish managed hosting for their enterprise server while ensuring reliable connectivity to their US operations. With a need for extensive Asia-Pacific coverage, strong global connectivity, and rapid deployment capabilities, the manufacturing leader approached Zenlayer to devise a solution that would improve internal access to key applications, extend their enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to China, and enhance their business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) strategy.
The challenge: overcoming global operational hurdles with connectivity, backup, and resource management
Chief among the customer’s challenges was internal resource access for users in China, who needed to access their ERP applications hosted in India and experienced persistent connectivity issues due to unreliable IPsec tunnels. The customer also needed to strengthen their backup and disaster recovery capabilities in China and Los Angeles, where they deployed a data-management and backup solution to protect enterprise applications and ensure business continuity.
Complicating matters, they faced challenges managing global resources and connectivity between multiple locations while working under an extremely tight deadline to migrate their ERP server to China.
Improving application access via rapid ERP migration
The manufacturer’s ERP server was previously hosted in India, with team members in China connected to it via IPsec tunnels. Persistent connectivity issues caused slow access, unreliable connectivity, and degraded application performance, severely impacting productivity and operational efficiency.
In their efforts to improve application access, the customer established a backup of their critical ERP server cluster in Los Angeles, intending to restore it to their site in China.
To accelerate their migration, we deployed two managed hosting servers in Beijing, closer to their internal users. This deployment not only fixed the connectivity issues introduced by IPsec tunnels but also significantly enhanced application performance and stability for team members.
Leveraging Zenlayer’s hyperconnected global backbone, the customer was able to securely and reliably interconnect their infrastructure between the US, India, and China for streamlined management.
Enhancing backup and disaster recovery
To strengthen their business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) strategy and safeguard hosted enterprise applications, the leading manufacturer previously deployed a data management and backup service in Los Angeles.
To replicate this environment for their operations in China, we leveraged our premium IP transit network to upload their mission-critical data and applications to their backup-as-a-service (BaaS) provider. We then helped deploy the same service in their newly established Beijing colocation, ensuring they had secure, high-performance infrastructure to host their applications and safeguard their data.
This enabled the manufacturer to quickly and securely back up critical ERP and enterprise data across global regions, augmenting their overall BCDR strategy to minimize disruptions.
Streamlining global data management
Managing global resources and connectivity across distributed locations posed a significant challenge for the customer, and a tight deadline to migrate their ERP server halfway across the globe further fueled the complexity.
Leveraging our hyperconnected global network and suite of connectivity services including edge colocation, managed hosting, and premium IP transit blend across multiple geographies, the manufacturer consolidated their infrastructure management under a single provider to shorten timelines and simplify operations.
Partnering with Zenlayer eliminated the need to work with a multitude of local vendors for various services, enabling the company to meet their tight deadline and migrate their ERP server to China in just one week—a process that would have otherwise taken months.
Looking ahead
Empowered by a more resilient and reliable infrastructure, the leading manufacturer is now able to scale their operations with greater agility and further optimize global connectivity. As the company continues to grow and expand its operations around the world, we’ll keep working with the customer to ensure seamless performance and reliability across their global network for continued success.
